New WHS Building Project
Time to Bring Wilmot's History Home!
The Wilmot Historical Society has kicked off a building campaign to realize a long awaited plan to provide a home for their collection. In March 2025, the town voted to sell us 2+ acres of land at the west end of the Pine Hill Cemetery, where the Society will erect an historically designed building. A recent bequest from a former Wilmot resident and Historical Society member, provided a major contribution to the campaign. More details will be coming soon.
The attached design includes an old barn which is in the long-term goal to complete a reproduction of a 19th century farmstead. For now, we need to create the farmhouse and smaller extension to have space to display our ever-growing historic collections which are now crowded and stored off site. There will also be room for events and meeting space. We are happy to answer any questions about the plans and will have them available in the “History Room” at the town office during Saturday morning Farmers Markets from 9 AM to noon starting June 13th 2026.
We are the only entity in Wilmot dedicated to preserving the history of the town and its people. The official town records cannot show you a pair of leather boots with buttons that a Wilmot shoemaker probably made for a little girl to wear to school. We can!
We are a 501c3 non-profit organization and we will appreciate any donation, either short term or long term, to help bring this plan to reality.
