History of the Town of Wilmot, New Hampshire
Everywhere we turn in Wilmot, we see glimpses of the past – of 200 years of building, foundations, mill races, agriculture, commerce, and stone walls that surrounded early pastures. The mission of the Wilmot Historical Society encourages us to engage with and stay connected to the people and timeline of our history.
We do this in many ways such as:
- recording audio and video stories of long-time Wilmot residents;
- updating our website with videos, documents, and photos;
- sponsoring presentations that explain and immerse us in our past;
- documenting the evolving past of our community;
- collecting & displaying artifacts that open doors to the Town’s history.
The WHS board meets every 2nd Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the town office at 9 Kearsarge Valley Road. All are welcome to attend. Email info@wilmothistoricalsociety.org for more information.

May 24 program on Corbin Wildlife Park
On Friday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m., the WHS will host a talk entitled "Corbin’s Animal Garden," a fascinating topic by author and academic Dr. Mary Kronenwetter. The program will take place at the Wilmot Community Association Red Barn, 64 Village Road (next to the post office) in Wilmot.
Dr. Kronenwetter uses an illustrated slideshow featuring archival images to enhance a discussion of the complicated history of Corbin Park. This park, still in existence today, is the legacy of New Hampshire’s own American Gilded Age robber baron, Austin Corbin. (more)
Retired Architect Donald P. Paulsen, 97, Receives Wilmot’s Boston Post Cane
On Friday, March 1, 2024, members of the Wilmot Historical Society board awarded the Boston Post cane to Donald P. Paulsen at his home on Fox Lane in Wilmot. Don was born in July of 1926. He is 97 years old and is currently the oldest living member of the Wilmot community.

Established in 1976, the Wilmot Historical Society (WHS) works to collect and protect artifacts, documents, and photographs relating to the Town of Wilmot. Through its educational programs, the History Room, and special projects, the organization endeavors to bring the town’s recent and not-so-recent past to life and to inspire residents to enjoy and treasure Wilmot’s history.
